^ Maybe it’s just me; but I feel like I’ve seen that conversation too many times, and I simply don’t understand it.

“I'm *some young age* and I listen to *some band/musician that’s 20+ years older than me*!”

Yes, these types of comments are common; yes, it’s not that uncommon to find young people who like older music. But you don’t have to yell at the kids simply for voicing their pride of liking music from outside their generation. Sure, age has nothing to do with a person’s ability to like a certain artist- music is universal, and anyone of any age can enjoy it. But there’s nothing wrong with being proud of liking older stuff at a younger age. Comments like these just reinforce the fact that good music is ageless, and you don’t have to be afraid to branch out to older generations to find music you like. There are still a lot of kids out there who are afraid to give older music a try, believe it or not; not to mention that a lot of kids today actually haven’t even heard of some of the 20th Century’s most popular music acts besides just The Beatles and Elvis. You wouldn’t believe the sheer number of vacant stares I get whenever I tell people at my school that I like The Bee Gees or Fleetwood Mac, and I’ll even confess that I would be equally ignorant of either of those artists and many more if it wasn’t for me randomly clicking around on YouTube out of boredom. I don’t flaunt my age necessarily; but nonetheless, I am very proud that I’m one of the few people at my school who actually knows and likes both of those bands, even though I’m sure I’m not their only teenage fan in the whole world. And there’s nothing wrong with being a proud fan.

You’re not “super speshul” for being a teen who likes older music, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be proud of the fact nonetheless. If you see a comment like the one above, just don’t reply to it and move on if you really don’t care about the person’s age or the age of the music. You don’t have to bash the kid’s pride just to make it clear to them that you don’t care. :/
